Practicing asanas with intention

In his book Remember, Be Here Now, Ram Dass reminds us to consider our intention when practicing asanas.  He says that if you undertake asanas as a form of exercise and with the purpose of changing your body that you will get exactly that, a better body.  However, if we practice asana as a form of yoga then the change that we will see in our body will be one of “calmness, sensitivity and lightness…all of which will facilitate your sadhana”.  This book is an interesting combination of an autobiography, original artwork, and then what Dass calls a “cookbook” of  ways to help you reach enlightenment in your life.
